Welsh Sale 2008

Sherborne Kolo takes Male Championship and Reserve Breed Championship at the Welsh sale on 28th June.  This result justified all the hassle and blood tests we had to go through to get to the sale in order to fulfill Blue tongue rules and regulations.  We would like to thank all the breeders in Wales for the warm welcome and wish all purchasers the very best luck with their new Sherborne sheep.

Blue Tongue update

All sheep at Sherborne were vaccinated with the Blue Tongue vaccine on 10th May so will be free for movements in line with Defra guidelines.  Having been in the protection zone since March this means that we hope to make the Welsh sale (29th June) our first outing.  We would like to thank all fellow breeders for their appreciated support and to those who have come to buy rams privately from the farm

May Fair Rams For Sale

Due to blue tongue movement restrictions, we are unable to attend this year's May Fair. These ram lambs would have been our sale team, and hopefully, once vaccination becomes available, we will be offering them for sale privately.

By Sherborne Federal, out of a Trevilley Carnage daughter. Good figures, especially muscle depth and scan weight EBV’s.

By Sherborne Dominator, out of a very consistent breeding Poorton Colfox daughter.

By Cissbury Findon, out of a Sherborne Z145 sired ewe – A230. She was shown successfully as a ewe lamb and shearling. This ram lamb has always been a real eye catcher weighing 70kgs in early February.

By Sherborne Federal and out of the Poorton Colfox ewe. D169 is out of our great old ewe X110 – still going, having produced another lovely ewe lamb last autumn. This ram lamb has great maternal figures and good muscle. (No photo available at present).

By Blackhill Freddie and out of a Sherborne Dominator daughter. Born in October, this lamb has great breed character.

By Huish High & Mighty and out of a Ramsden Zulu (Z50) daughter. This ram scanned over 40mm muscle, having been born on 12 October, and also has good maternal figures.

Show Ram for Sale SOLD!

We are delighted to report that "Just the Job" has been sold to Mr Huw Williams for his Swyn-y-Coed flock.

He is by "Sherborne Ferrari" and out of a "Darwin" sired ewe.  His grand dam is "Sherborne X45", a ewe still going strong having had 12 lambs in 6 crops.

"Just the Job" was 1st in his class at Bath & West (June 2007), and went on to be reserve breed champion.  He was described by Judge Thomas Wright (Ballytaggart), to be one of the best ram lambs he had seen from Sherborne.

German Exports

15 Poll Dorset ewe lambs and a ram from the Sherborne flock of Richard Hole (Sherborne, Dorset) are inspected by local vet Paul Atkinson before before sent for export to Kasendorf, Southern Germany.

The buyer has purchased the sheep through the flock's website and will be the first Poll Dorsets in Southern Germany, where they will be used to produce lambs for a local butcher. The breeds ability to lamb in any month of the year, naturally, will be eventually used to supply fresh lamb all the year round.

Show & Sale Season 2007!

BATH AND WEST 2007

Sherborne 'Just the Job' won the ram lamb class and went on to be Reserve Breed Champion. The sire, 'Sherborne Ferrari', is proving his worth having bred 'Hotshot' last year.

WELSH CLUB SALE 2007

Another good day for the Flock with 'Hannah' winning her class and going on to be Female Champion and Reserve Breed Champion. She is by 'Poorton Colfox' and was the days highest priced shearling ewe, making 500gns to Roci Poll Dorsets.

New Sires for 2007

GORTLEIGH HASTINGS - by our own F32 (out of X110, still breeding - just scanned in lamb for September 2007)

BLACKHILL HEINZ - son of reference sire Blackhill F245 and out of a Zola daughter.

SHERBORNE JUPITER - used for his dam line Sherborne Z211. She's had 13 lambs in five crops and has jsut scanned carrying a twin for September! This ram lamb got ALL the ewes he ran with in lamb on recent scan results.

HUISH HIGH AND MIGHTY - purchased at May Fair 2006, high muscle EBV by Huish Cupid.
