"Sherborne Never Say Die" - Breaks flock's highest May Fair price

N102 - Never Say Die - gave the flock a brilliant May Fair on 4/5 May 2010 by winning the Signet class on the show day and finishing runner up in a strong single poll lamb class.

On sale day, this Sherborne Lewisham son set an early high price of 2,200 gns, only to be surpassed late in the day the single poll winner achieving 2,800 gns.

Charlton ewes settle in at Hill Street

As many of you will now know, during the summer we were lucky enough to purchase the entire Charlton Flock from Trish Laws. This will give us some exciting new bloodlines and an opportunity to work with sheep that have been carefully bred and successfully shown by Trish over the years.

Having now been scanned, most of the ewes are in lamb for October to Downkillybegs JayKay and Ballytaggart Jackman – so hopefully there will be some breeding stock available next season.

Best Large Flock Award

Richard & Robert Hole’s Sherborne Flock of Poll Dorsets were recently awarded Best Large Flock in the National Dorset Horn and Poll Dorset Sheep Breeders Flock Competition.

The event, judged in July by Mr & Mrs William Carson from Northern Ireland, is split into small, medium and large categories depending on ewe numbers.

The flock’s group of 100 ewe lambs also won the overall ewe lamb section, beating entrants from Derbyshire, Sheffield, Devon and Northern Ireland.

The competition, held annually by the Breed, is growing in popularity every year and it allows judges to see the versatility of the Dorset breed in many different farming environments across the UK.

Bath & West Show 2009

Sherborne Kiri won the Reserve Champion at the Royal Bath and West Show. This well bred Federal daughter will be offered for sale at the Welsh Sale on 27 June 2009. Her grandmother is our "wonder granny" X110 - still going strong in the flock!

Centurion Selection Day 2009

Sherborne Lomu (pictured) was voted runner up in our recent Centurion Selection Day held at Hill Street. This ram lamb was sired by Downkillybegs Jazz King and was out of an “Approved” Sherborne ewe J257. She was “Approved” because she was sired by a New Zealand Poll Dorset ram used in the flock for one season.

Welsh Sale 2008

Sherborne Kolo takes Male Championship and Reserve Breed Championship at the Welsh sale on 28th June.  This result justified all the hassle and blood tests we had to go through to get to the sale in order to fulfill Blue tongue rules and regulations.  We would like to thank all the breeders in Wales for the warm welcome and wish all purchasers the very best luck with their new Sherborne sheep.

Melplash Win
